Hochul: $33 million allocated to mental health in the state budget to expand services for felons

Gov. Hochul on Wednesday announced a new effort to transform mental health in the state for people involved in the criminal justice system.
The effort includes $33 million in the state budget to expand mental health services and mental provide the access and support needed for recovery.
"By enhancing mental health supports we're not just helping people find stability and peace, we're making our community safer,” said Hochul.
Over $8 million will also go to help courts identify defendants with a history of mental health concerns.
