An event geared toward empowering young Black women was held in Riverhead Saturday afternoon.
Twelve women shared advice with the girls on topics like respect, education and potential career paths during the "Pearls of Wisdom" tea at the First Baptist Church of Riverhead.
The Butterfly Effect Project and the Suffolk County Chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women teamed up for the event.
"It is so important for each one of us to do something about it and be the change you want to see," said Tijuana Fulford, founder and executive director of the Butterfly Effect Project.
