Nassau Community College professors call on state to step in to help school survive

5ds agoProfessors at Nassau Community College are calling on the state to step in to help the school with what they say is years of financial mismanagement caused by failed leadership.
The Nassau Community College Federation of Teachers says the college faces a projected $27 million deficit over the next five years.
The union says the school is now slashing academic departments by nearly 70%.
Nassau Community College Federation of Teachers President Faren Siminoff says the "college is in chaos and its existence is at stake."
Nassau Community College Vice President for Community and Governmental Relations Jerry Kornbluth says the school is being proactive and developing a model for the future.
"The first step of that is efficiency," Kornbluth says. "The efficiency is to take departments and put them where the commonality is."
The union recently adopted a vote of no confidence in the college's administration.
