Fire displaces 7 people in Garnerville

A car fire that spread to a building resulted in seven people being displaced from three apartments in Garnerville overnight.
Witnesses say the car began smoking and then caught fire before the flames spread to the building on Hurd Avenue.
Fire officials say everyone evacuated was unharmed. The Red Cross provided victims with funds to stay in a hotel.

The West Haverstraw fire inspector allowed the occupants of two of the apartments back into their homes on Tuesday, but the upstairs front apartment is still uninhabitable due to water and smoke damage.
Officials believe an electrical malfunction sparked the car fire.
