An event in Peekskill celebrated both Women's History Month and National Engineering Month.

The Peekskill Girl Scouts ran the "Engineering is Fun" event with the goal to empower the young girls and introduce them to STEM, which stands for science, technology, engineering and math.

The event was set up in stations, all of which had a different focus.

Through engineering and science, the kids were able to create contraptions.

They also had robot building and showcasing, they had fingerprinting, engineering bridges.

Home Depot had a building section.

While there was a focus on getting girls into STEM, all students were welcome.

Over 50 kids participated at the event.

This is the 16th year the Peekskill Girl Scouts held this event.

Almost 20 years ago, Jennifer Turner was working in STEM and help to promote engineering careers to women. She was also a Girl Scout leader. So she decided to combine the two.

"It was such a big hit, that I said, 'I need to take it to the community,'" Turner recalled.

Not only is the event a ton of fun for participants, but it also helps get those students interested in STEM. It's something Turner said has seen first-hand.

"But I do hear feedback of girls who have gone into STEM, including my daughter, who was a Girl Scout, who got her gold award and she is now a software engineer at Netflix," she said.
