Phase three of reopening began Monday with the opening of nail salons, massage parlors, spas, tanning salons, tattoo and piercing shops and waxing centers.
As of Monday, indoor dining remains closed. The mayor says an estimated 50,000 workers will be returning to their jobs Monday.
Phase three will also include the reopening of outdoor recreational areas. This includes basketball, tennis, volleyball, handball, bocce and dog runs.
According to the mayor, public transit ridership has increased in New York City since last month. Subway ridership increased 18% from June 17 to July 1. Bus ridership increased 12%, The Staten Island Ferry ridership increased 15%, and traffic into Manhattan increased 3% on East River bridges and 7% on Harlem River bridges.
The city says 700 personnel, including the Sheriff’s Office, were out this weekend focused on education on corridors and neighborhoods with the high concentration of bar and restaurants.
100,000 face coverings were distributed over the weekend, and officials say of the 1,000 business surveyed, 85% were in compliance.
