New York will allow outdoor, socially distanced graduation ceremonies of up to 150 people beginning later this month, Gov. Cuomo announced Sunday.

New York will allow outdoor, socially distanced graduation ceremonies of up to 150 people beginning later this month, Gov. Cuomo announced Sunday.
The change will take effect on June 26. The governor says it's subject to any outbreaks or significant developments.
It comes as New York City prepares to head into Phase 1 of its reopening on Monday, and Long Island and the mid-Hudson region enter Phase 2.
Cuomo applauded New Yorkers' efforts to curb the spread of coronavirus and said landmarks across the state would be lit in blue and gold Sunday night in celebration of their accomplishments.
Previously, Gov. Cuomo announced on Saturday that New York will accelerate the reopening of houses of worship to allow 25% occupancy when regions reach Phase 2.
 
BRIEFING NOTES: 
-The governor addressed protests around the country over the death of George Floyd, calling for changes at the federal level.
-Cuomo says the numbers continue to trend in the right direction with deaths remaining low in New York.
-The governor announced that outdoor, socially distanced graduation ceremonies will be permitted to be held beginning June 26. Up to 150 people will be permitted to attend. The governor says that's subject to any outbreaks or significant changes.
-The governor notes that the effects of current protests and demonstrations on the spread of the coronavirus remains unknown and may not be known for days.
-The governor urged New Yorkers to continue to follow social distancing guidelines as New York City heads into Phase 1 reopening on Monday.
-Cuomo says landmarks across NY will be lit in blue and gold tonight in honor of New Yorker's efforts and accomplishment to flatten the curve.
