From road trips, to flights, hotels and resorts.
News 12's Elizabeth Hashagen was joined by Pauline Frommer, the editorial director of Frommer's, to talk about the future of travel and the changes to expect if you do take a trip.
The TSA says the number of people going through airport security checkpoints nearly doubled throughout May.
Below find five changes that Frommer says you can expect:
1. The changes that are coming to hotels, both in the experience and what you need to know when booking. We expect a reduced number of amenities - bye bye buffet breakfasts, spas, and hang out areas in the lobby, hello more virtual check ins and hotels out of business entirely. Read Frommer's 12 rules for booking and staying in hotels now here. And read about what Airbnb and other rental sites are doing to keep vacation homes clean and safe here.
2. Why airfares, which are now quite low, are about to skyrocket. Click here for more information on that.
3. Parks as DisneyWorld, Disneyland, Six Flags and Universal will reopen differently. Universal Studios has announced it will reopen June 5, read more on the reopening here.
4. Certain destination are doing promotions to bring back travelers eventually. Sicily is offering to pay 50% of visitors' airfare costs, one out of every three hotel nights, and have all museums and historic sites be free. They’ve allotted 500 million euros to this program, read more here. Portugal has announced that it is going to be letting back countries with a lot of Portuguese descendants, meaning Americans will be able to go there before Spaniards, read more on this plan here.
5. If you plan on doing a road trip in the near future, RV rentals are up 1,000% this year over last. More on that here. You may be able to get refunds on different types of travel, but may be left out of international travel.
