Stratford residents who don't obey social distancing rules could now be fined $100, the town's mayor say.
Mayor Laura Hoydick issued a notice Wednesday informing residents.
The enforcement comes as the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in town is at 126 with five deaths.
All of Stratford's town buildings are closed, but recreational spaces like beaches, parks and playgrounds are still open.
Gov. Ned Lamont's social distancing order requires people to keep at least six feet away from others and not to gather in groups over five
Mayor Hoydick says anyone who disobeys the governor's directives will first be warned, and then fined $100 if they violate the order again.
Police say they understand small children need supervision so each incident will be investigated on a case-to-case basis.
Fairfield announced this week that they will also begin enforcing fines of $92 for those caught violating the town's orders to stay out of recreational spaces that have been closed off to the public.
Residents in Stratford are asked to report violators they see to police at 203-385-4100 or by using the 411 app.
