A Fairfield nonprofit that provides food to those in need is extending its services to include home grocery deliveries to seniors.
Operation Hope's food pantry teamed up with Fairfield Social Services who has been delivering hot meals to seniors since the Bigelow Center for Senior Activities closed due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Organizers say seniors who get the meals once a week will now be getting groceries delivered to their homes also.
Executive Director Carla Miklos says the senior grocery delivery is also in addition to the hundreds of families that rely on Operation Hope’s food pantry.
She says with people losing their jobs because of the virus, even more families count on the food pantry.
Miklos says volunteers are also taking precautions when sorting food to stay safe so they can stay open and continue to process food for deliveries.
