A Bronx teacher is recovering after he tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this month.
The teacher, who wants to remain anonymous, says he was diagnosed with the virus over two weeks ago, when city schools were still open.
He says the Department of Education did not confirm his case to other staff until a few days after he notified his school of his diagnosis and after schools were ordered to be shut down anyway.
Since then, the teacher says at least six more of his colleagues at the Grace Dodge Campus in Fordham have also tested positive.
Even though he’s gone through over 14 days of self-isolation, he says he still has concerns.
According to the CDC website, someone can only determine that they are no longer contagious after they have no fever without medicine, have improvement of other symptoms, and after they receive two negative tests in a row, 24 hours apart.
However, the teacher says his doctor told him that they "haven't received mandates saying we have to do tests at all."
While he is grateful to be recovering, he says there is still so much uncertainty and that residents need to take precautions to stay safe.

"Please don't go outside, playgrounds or Orchard Beach, try to exercise inside. I hope we have learned from this situation," he says.
