Officials: 7 people injured during Brownsville basement fire

A firefighter was among seven people who were injured during a fire in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn.

More than 100 firefighters reported to the scene of the two-story home on 79 Legion St. around 4 a.m.

The fire is believed to have started in the basement and then spread up through the top floors.

News 12 is told the most seriously injured person is a 67-year-old woman named Dora Scott.

Scott's daughter and two grandchildren tell News 12 that firefighters had to rescue her from deeper inside the building. When she was taken out, she had suffered serious burns and her heart had stopped.

She was stabilized after being treated at Brookdale Hospital.

The other six people who were injured, including a firefighter, are expected to be OK.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
