The coronavirus outbreak is impacting everyone and that includes children.
News 12 spoke with Dr. Susan Lotto, a school psychologist on how best to help children through these confusing times.
Families across the city now have their children at home to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
The lifestyle change is one that Dr. Lotto wants to make sure families can get though as easily as possible.
Dr. Lotto says children thrive on routine and consistency. It’s also important to talk with your children about what is going on with coronavirus.
But with older children, Dr. Lotto says you don’t want to keep them in the dark, with easy access to the internet nowadays, teens are getting a lot of information and may need help processing it.
Keeping the vulnerable population in mind, families might try to limit contact with older family members like grandparents. Dr. Lotto is encouraging parents to reassure the young ones that they’re all safe.
Keeping an open conversation can go a long way as families get used to the changes.
