In Suffolk, the first case is a man in his 20s, who is currently in isolation at Stony Brook University Hospital. The second, a woman in her 20s, is self-isolating in her home in Southhold. The third case is a man in his 80s, who is in isolation at St. Catherine's Hospital in Smithtown. The fourth is a man in his 40s who is currently at a Southampton Hospital. The fifth is a man in his late 30s who is a Town of Brookhaven resident and is at Stony Brook University Hospital. One Suffolk patient is a per-diem worker at the Peconic Landing Retirement Community in Greenport. That facility is home to more than 450 people 62 years of age and older.
Peconic Landing management says, "This employee worked for four hours after unknowingly being exposed to the virus in the greater community ... Peconic Landing has taken the precautionary step of placing employees that have been identified to have worked in close proximity with this employee on leave."
Another Suffolk patient is an employee of the Greenport Brewing Company. Hazmat crews were seen actively working to decontaminate the brewer. County officials say this person is directly connected to another person who tested positive and is quarantined in Southold.
The Suffolk health commissioner advised friends and family to limit any sort of visitation to these facilities and is also advising seniors in general to avoid gathering in large groups.
