A dog in Bay Ridge has received support from her community after she was badly injured in a crash that killed her owner.
The red patches on Stormy's paws are where skin and fur were ripped off when her 66-year-old owner was struck and killed last Thursday.
Frank Decolvenaere was walking Stormy near Fourth Avenue and 101st Street when the crash happened.
Stormy was injured and ran more than 10 blocks all the way home, where her family found her unconscious. The family says she had evidence of swelling within her brain from the force and that she had bleeding in her lungs so she had trouble breathing, which required oxygen support.
X-rays also show that she suffered a fractured pelvis, but she has been strong through the ordeal.
Her treatment so far would have cost $6,000. To help pay for Stormy's care, family and friends set up a GoFund me page and the vet clinic also stepped in and reached out to nonprofit organization Positive Tails, which helps pet owners in need.
Stormy is expected to go home by Wednesday.
