A hit-and-run crash in Metuchen has left a utility worker in critical condition.
Authorities say that the crash happened just after 9 a.m. Monday at the intersection of Middlesex Avenue and Grove Street.
Police say that the driver of what appears to be a white Nissan Frontier pickup truck struck the worker and then kept going. Surveillance images of the vehicle seem to show that it has an extended cab with marks on the side and a tailgate. Two people were apparently inside of the truck at the time.
The worker was taken to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital and is in critical condition.
Mayor Jonathan Busch said in a statement, "Our Metuchen Police Department is doing everything it can to bring the driver to justice. We are deeply saddened by this news which strengthens our resolve to continue to take steps to bring aggressive driving under control in the Borough."
Anyone with information is urged to contact Metuchen Police Sgt. Robert Belluscio at 732-632-8500 or prosecutor Detective Jonathan Berman at 732-745-4328.
