Two Wilton police officers are back in the country after scaling one of the world's highest mountains to raise money for the Special Olympics Connecticut.

Lts. Rob Kluk and Dave Hartman were back at work Monday after climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Before the two-week journey began, the volunteers spent months training and fundraising. They raised just under $160,000 for the cause.

Hartman says climbing to the 19,000-foot peak was one of the greatest challenges of his life, but the athletes of the Special Olympics climb their own mountains every single day.

"We really wanted to show that we're there to support them," said Hartman. "We're going to climb one of the tallest mountains in honor of them. And hopefully by us doing this, we're showing people that you can accomplish anything, no matter who you are, as long as you put your mind to it and keep working at it."
