A new bill passed by the New York state Senate will force landlords to make court ordered repairs within 60 days.

Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz has spent more than a decade trying to get the bill passed in the state Senate. The measure was first introduced years back after Dinowitz says a boy died in an apartment fire when the landlord neglected to make court mandated repairs.

He says this new bill will prevent another tragedy of this kind.

Corine Ombongo Golden, a housing advocate and Bronx tenant, fought to get her bathroom fixed for months.

It was recently fixed. But after a lengthy battle in Housing Court, she says no tenant should have to wait for months to get repairs that are mandated by the court.

Dinowitz says the bill is a step in the right direction to hold neglectful landlords accountable and that he is confident that the governor will pass the bill into law.
