Libraries across the borough are introducing kids to the arts with free musicals happening from now through the spring.

Lehman College’s Children's Theater Company performers are taking center stage at the Tremont Library alongside musicians with the Bronx Arts Ensemble to bring live musicals to children across the Bronx.

The musicals are happening thanks to a partnership with the New York Public Library.

“We have kids who have never seen a viola or a violin in real life,” says Henry Ovalles, with the theater company. “We have kids who certainly haven't seen a base, so to see the music being played and maybe touch the instruments, that's a great opportunity for them.”

Tuesday's production was "Jasmine's Song,” the story of a Bronx girl learning to play the violin. This marks just one of seven free performances at libraries around the borough, happening through April.

“It's my way of kind of giving back to the community as a performer,” says performer Ginaury Vasquez. “Being able to show the people that, yes, we are the Bronx, and we are able to do this, and this is for you guys to enjoy and for you to know that this is an outlet that is available to you.”
