Mount Hope residents say they've been trapped in homes due to non-working elevators

Residents of a Mount Hope building say they've essentially been trapped inside their homes due to months of non-working elevators.
The privately owned building is run by Wavecrest Management. It said it put a sign outside the elevator explaining that the elevator company was unable to make repairs as expected. It said it could take up to four weeks to get it back up and running.
However, that sign was posted on New Year's Eve. News 12 found multiple complaints by residents dating back to 2016 on the Department of Buildings website.
Rosalina Torres says it's been months since she's been able to use the elevators in the building. She says everyday chores have become nearly impossible due to her living on the sixth floor.
"I haven't been out in about two months, I haven't been downstairs," said Torres.
Torres says she also deals with health issues, and that it is dangerous to go up and down the stairs. "I have fallen more than 20 times down the stairs," said Torres.
News 12 spoke with the super of the building off camera, and he says he's been personally delivering groceries to residents. He also says he doesn't know the status of the elevator repairs.
“Wavecrest has already completed the necessary repairs, and the elevators will be back in service as soon as the legally required Department of Buildings approval is obtained," Wavecrest Management said in a statement. "The safety of residents is our highest priority, and a replacement part was needed to ensure safe operation of the elevator.”
News 12 has contacted the DOB for comment, and it said it had visited the building Tuesday morning and that it is reviewing the application of the repair before permits can be issued.
