Bridgeport city officials Thursday gathered at the site of a crime-plagued eatery that is slated to be demolished.
City officials and a contractor toured the Snack Shop and an adjacent house on Revere Street.
Both buildings are slated to be demolished on the city's East End. Officials say the property across the street is also associated with violent crime and will soon be torn down.
A makeshift memorial for Dae Dae Graystill still marks the spot nearby where the 32-year-old was killed on July 27, 2019. Residents says memorials are likely to stay after the demolition but hope the crime will disappear.
“Hopefully, in the next few days, you'll see a wrecking ball here," says Mayor Joe Ganim.
Ganim says the demolition will support a new retail plaza being built across the street over the next year and a half.
"You'll see this project develop…and we'll have ribbon-cuttings and you'll see a grocery store and retail and a library even sooner than that," he told News 12.
