Prosecutors say they have several videos that allegedly show a Williamsburg father in the act of killing his 1-month-old son.
They say the videos show Teshawn Watkins, 27, putting a pillow over his newborn's head. Prosecutors say Watkins admitted he had done so to try and minimize the baby's crying to detectives.
Watkins said when he woke up, the baby was unresponsive, according to prosecutors.
Watkins has been charged with second-degree murder, manslaughter and reckless endangerment.
Assistant District Attorney Amir Fidel told the judge there are several other videos showing a pattern of violence in the family's Holland Avenue home. Prosecutors say Watkins recorded himself giving the mother of his children a bloody nose while pregnant.
Prosecutors say there is also a video of Watkins spinning his baby in the air by his head. News 12 spoke to Watkins' attorney who says he has not seen any videos prosecutors speak of.
The New York City Administration for Children's Services removed the parents' other two kids from the household and released a statement saying, "Our top priority is protecting the safety and wellbeing of all children in New York City. We are investigating this case with the NYPD."
Judge Margaret Martin remanded Watkins because of the nature of the charges and being a flight risk, despite the defense attorney's request for a supervised release.
She also granted orders of protection for the mother of the deceased baby and Watkins' two other kids.
Watkins is due back in court Feb. 5 for grand jury action.
Officers responded to a call at Watkin's apartment on Holland Avenue Wednesday. When they arrived, News 12 is told they found the newborn not breathing.
The baby boy was rushed to Montefiore Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
The mother of the baby is said to have been home and was the one who called 911. The couple has two other children, a 3-year-old boy and a 4-year-old boy. A source tells News 12 the father has a history of domestic violence toward the mother
As for the mother, she has not been arrested or charged for now.
