Brooklyn-born Assembly member Rodneyse Bichotte is officially the first female chair of the Brooklyn Democratic Party.
She has been serving as a Democratic district leader for years, and has been a New York state Assembly member since 2015.
Bichotte spoke with News 12 about her professional career, from wanting to be a dancer when she was young, to studying music since high school. Instead - she's had a wide ranging career, working as an engineer in Japan and China, working as a math teacher -- and also spending some time working on Wall Street. While she was living in Illinois, she decided to try her hand at politics, working for then-Sen. Barack Obama.
Bichotte then moved back to Brooklyn and decided to go into politics. She lost her first Democratic primary for the Assembly seat in 2012, but ran again and was elected two years later. Since then, Bichotte says she's worked hard at helping other Democrats get elected.
Now that 2020 is here, Bichotte her main goal is to work on uniting the Democratic Party.
