Nassau SPCA: Kitten stolen during adoption event at Carle Place Petco

Posted: Updated:

A kitten was stolen from a Petco in Carle Place, according to the Nassau County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).

The Golden Paws Society has more than 150 cats up for adoption across Long Island. One of the adoption center's felines named Princess was being displayed in Carle Place.

The center's director says that two people unlocked the kitten's cage and left with the animal.

The SPCA is now looking for whoever stole the cat.

"We don't know why they took the cat and we're very concerned why it was taken," says Gary Rogers of the Nassau SPCA. "Maybe they took it because they wanted to give it a good home but we need to know. We need to find out why."

The SPCA is offering a reward of $2,500 to whoever helps find Princess. The center's director, Eilleen Osmers, says she also will give $1,000 to whoever helps get Princess back.
