Staff from four schools within the Diocese of Brooklyn met at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Academy to learn how to respond to a potential active shooter.

News 12 is told the goal of Friday's program is to give staff the tools they would need if they're ever in a situation where a violent intruder is present.

The day started with an educational presentation for teachers, followed by the school's participation in hands-on active shooter scenarios.

The program is being taught by facilitators with SWAT team expertise. School officials say that while they hope they won't ever experience an active shooter situation, it's better to be prepared for anything that comes their way.

School officials say they plan to use the tools they learned at the training to implement in their classrooms. They say they will also pass on the tools to the students.
