Former Stony Brook University professor admits to stealing cancer research money in court

A former Stony Brook University associate professor admitted to stealing cancer research money in court Tuesday.
Geoffrey Girnun pleaded guilty to theft of government funds. Prosecutors say between 2013 and 2017, Girnun stole $78,000 from the National Institutes of Health.
They say he used the money to pay the mortgage on his home.
Girnun faces up to 10 years in prison when he is sentenced.
