Case dismissed against man accused of murdering woman
The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office has announced it is dismissing the case involving a man accused of murdering a woman more than six years ago, and all charges against him have been dropped.
According to the prosecutor’s office, the brutally beaten body of a woman was found back in 2013 near a river bank behind ShopRite in Passaic.
The prosecutor’s office says the DNA of Rafael Camey was found on the body. He was then charged with murder and sexual assault.
But his defense team successfully had that evidence suppressed during trial preparation. The judge ruled his constitutional rights were violated and the evidence could not be used at trial.
The Passaic County Prosecutor could not convince a judge to obtain a new DNA sample from him, and was forced to drop the case.
