Coney Island is getting dozens of new parking spots in hopes of alleviating the neighborhood's parking struggles.
After a cold and dreary New York winter, tourists will flock to Coney Island once again this summer. And with that, parking becomes a difficult game.
"It's pure bedlam, you have to see my block on the 4th of July, there's a backup ... right down the block all the way to the corner, going down Surf Avenue," says Linda Utsler.
But neighbors say they struggle to even find parking in the dead of winter -- the Department of Transportation is looking to change that.

Neighbors welcome any help they can get, but they aren't sure it'll be enough. State Sen. Diane Savino says she's glad she was able to help make this happen, adding that "Coney Island residents have suffered from a lack of parking for far too long. This previously under-utilized space will now help alleviate those issues..."
Councilman Chaim Deutsch told us that he fought for parking spots here for many years and he's hopeful the spots will change that.
