New York City saw the most flu cases in the state by a long shot as flu season kicks in to gear.

Dr. Ernest Patti, the senior attending physician of emergency medicine at St. Barnabas Hospital, says city residents shouldn't take any chances and should just get their flu shot.

According to the New York State Flu Tracker, 253 cases were reported just this past week in the Bronx, while Brooklyn saw the most cases in the state at 450. Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced a 60% increase in flu cases statewide since last week.

Patti emphasizes that just because someone got the vaccine last year, doesn't mean you're in the clear this year. He says anyone 6 months old and older should get the vaccine.

Patti says to make sure you always wash your hands, and when you're out and about, to be aware of people coughing and sneezing near you.
