A staple of the Bronx for almost a century was honored Thursday by state Sen. Gustavo Rivera.
Sen. Rivera honored Conti's Pastry Shoppe with the New York State Senate Empire Award. The award is given to a business that is a leader in their industry, promotes economic growth and positively impacts its community.
News 12 caught up with Sen. Rivera and the co-owner of Conti's, Christina Dirusso, to discuss the special distinction.
"This is an opportunity for me to underline that there are incredible businesses all across the Bronx that not only do great products like the beautiful pastries you see here," said Sen. Rivera.
"This is amazing and it means so much. I'm glad that we are recognized. We love our community and our customers. I'm so glad to just be doing this," said Dirusso.
Conti's Pastry Shoppe has been open for 98 years and still is the go-to spot for many in the Morris Park and Van Nest neighborhoods.
