Officials: Man falls through floor after bathroom collapses in Fordham apartment building

The Department of Buildings says a man fell through a hole in the floor when the floor of a bathroom collapsed in a Fordham apartment building early Sunday morning.
Officials say the man fell through the hole and into the basement of the apartment when the floor collapsed just after midnight. He was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital.
The Department of Buildings issued a partial vacate order for the apartment. It also issued a violation to the landlord for failure to maintain the building.
Gwendolyn Utsey has lived in 2076 Creston Ave. for three years and says the landlord is notorious neglectful.
"I've been having problems with this building for a long time,” she says. “We have no hot water, heat. Now I don't even have gas in my apartment. He's not taking care of the building. They need to close the whole building down."
However, resident Marino Perez says he thinks it was just an accident.
"As a tenant, you want to try to live the best you can and do the best you can and try to get your money worth for your rent, but sometimes it becomes a situation where things just slip through the cracks,” says Perez.
The Red Cross offered assistance to the tenants living in the affected apartment.
