Posted: Updated:

New data from a recent study highlighted the shocking number of students across the Bronx who suffer from homelessness.

Advocates for Children of New York say that 114,085 students identified as homeless during the 2018-2019 school year.

The say the Bronx is the borough that is most affected by the crisis.

According to Advocates for Children of New York, almost 40,000 students experienced homelessness in the Bronx during the last school year.

This newfound data is leading many officials to call for change.

Local officials say the city and state must step in by providing more affordable housing and expanding Section 8.

Mayor Bill de Blasio says he has committed to part of a 12 year initiative to build affordable housing in the Bronx, but many teachers feel students need solutions now.
