For the second time in two weeks, a hateful message has been found in Glen Cove.
Police say four pieces of graffiti, including a swastika, were spray painted on a tree and rock along the trails in the Welwyn Preserve on Dec. 3.
They say the graffiti was not far from the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center. Police are investigating the incident as a hate crime.
Det. Lt. John Nagle says it's not uncommon to find buildings in the preserve vandalized.
As News 12 has reported, a racial slur and other graffiti was found at the center and nearby Webb Institute on Nov. 24.
Surveillance photos captured four young suspects on the grounds of both properties on Crescent Beach Road. Police say the vandals defaced numerous signs with vulgar and racial language.
Graffiti was also scrawled on a brick wall in the Children's Memorial Garden of the memorial.
Police say they believe the two incidents of graffiti are the work of two different groups of suspects.
Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center chairman Steven Markowitz says the sad irony is a place that teaches tolerance was targeted with messages of hate.
The center is now in talks with Nassau County to increase security at the site. Nassau County Executive Laura Curran told News 12 in a statement, "We will respond by standing together to condemn anti-Semitism, and other forms of hatred that seek to divide us and turn us against each other."
Glen Cove police say they've significantly stepped up patrols in the area. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 516-676-1000.
