A 10-year-old boy is fighting for his life after he was shot at a high school football game in Atlantic County.
A GoFundMe set up for 10-year-old Micah, also known as “Dew,” has raised over $15,000. He remains in Cooper University Hospital in Camden recovering from his injuries. The boy is one of three people injured at Friday night’s playoff game between Pleasantville and Camden. Another child was grazed and a 27-year-old man was shot.
Five people have been charged in the shooting, including Alvin Wyatt, the alleged shooter. Police arrested him shortly after it happened.
Police say that the 27-year-old victim is also facing weapons charges.
The shooting happened during the game’s third quarter, sending players, coaches and fans running for their lives. The game was postponed following the shooting.
Officials say that the remaining 17 minutes of gameplay will take place Wednesday, Nov. 20. The Philadelphia Eagles have offered to host the game at Lincoln Financial Field. Family members of the players will be provided with free passes to the game. It will be closed to the public.
“It’s extremely unfortunate that a senselessly violent act has impacted this game, and there will certainly be a wide range of emotions along both sidelines. However, thanks to the Eagles’ generosity and community spirit, Pleasantville and Camden student-athletes and their families will have an opportunity to write their own ending to this game. They’ll compete on a world-class stage, sending a clear message that violence will not win," New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association executive director Larry White says in a statement.
The team that wins the game will go on to play Cedar Creek High School.
