Police sources say an off-duty NYPD officer died in a car crash in Manhattan early Saturday morning.
They say NYPD officer Garman Chen, 25, was driving his personal car northbound on FDR Drive and East 20th Street around 2:30 a.m. when it lost control and struck a jersey barrier and a pedestrian foot bridge.
Sources say that Chen was pronounced dead on the scene. They say Chen was assigned to the 76th Precinct in Carroll Gardens and had been in the department for less than five years.
Police say another man and a woman, also 25, were in the car at the time of the accident and sustained serious injuries. Sources say the other man was FDNY firefighter Kenneth Larken, assigned to Ladder 10, and the woman was identified as Amanda Remy.
Both Larkin and Remy were transported to Bellevue Hospital with injuries.
