Spring Valley HS student charged with reporting false incident

A Spring Valley High School student is being accused of falsely reporting a possible school shooting.

Just before noon Thursday, Spring Valley police say they received call about a possible school shooting at the high school. News 12 is told that every single officer on duty nearby responded to the incident.

Police say the school was put on lockdown. Police searched the school top to bottom and were able to rule out any threat of an active shooter.

News 12 is told that the student who made the phone call was found in one of the classrooms and was taken into police custody and charged with falsely reporting an incident.

The student has since been released to their parents and will have to appear in court.

A court date has not yet been set.
