After four generations, a well-known family-owned jewelry store in Franklin Lakes is closing up shop.
Glenn Parian, the current owner of Parian & Sons, which has been around for nearly 100 years, says it's a bittersweet "next step." He told News 12 that he remembers fondly as a child helping his grandfather and father at the family jewelry store.
The store, originally opened in Clifton, was founded by Glenn’s grandfather John, an Italian immigrant, when he was 22 years old. Glenn's father took over the business in the 1950s. Glenn took it over in the 1990s, opening the current Franklin Lakes location in 1998.
“We just felt it was a good time to retire,” Parian told News 12. “I've been doing this for 47 years. As I’ve told people – I’m cooked, I'm turned over and I'm pretty much done."
Glenn's daughter Kate is the fourth-generation Parian and last to work at the store.
"Not many people get to have their great-grandfather as long as I did,” she said. “But also work in store with grandparents and aunts and uncles and spend amazing time learning a lot of things too."
Parian and Sons will have going out of business sales until they officially close early next year.
