Posted: Updated:

A Stamford woman was carjacked at gunpoint inside of a public parking garage, police say.

The incident happened Saturday at the Stamford Town Center parking garage around 2:30 p.m.

Police say the victim called 911 and told them she had just been carjacked at gunpoint and that the suspect took off with her car.

The woman told police she was sitting in her car when a teen walked up to her, displayed a handgun, and asked for money and for her to turn off her cellphone.

The victim says the suspect told her to climb into the backseat of the car, but she refused and ran off.

The suspect drove off with the woman's car.

Police say they found the woman's car abandoned on Vista Street a short time later.

Police also located the suspect, and he was taken into custody and later confessed to the carjacking incident.

The teen is also accused of several similar carjacking incidents in the downtown Stamford area.

Police are not releasing his identity because he is a juvenile, but say he is facing charges including, robbery, criminal attempt at kidnapping with a gun.
