Police make arrest in deadly shooting in Manalapan

Police in Monmouth County have made an arrest in a deadly shooting in Manalapan over the weekend.
Jackson Township resident Gerard Grimes Jr., 23, is facing first-degree murder charges, along with charges of burglary, possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a handgun. The charges are related to the shooting death of 43-year-old Narciso Rodriguez-Corona Saturday night.
The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office says that around 9:30 p.m. Saturday police received reports of an armed man trying to get into a home located at 25 Fawn Run. The prosecutor says that the homeowner was able to prevent the armed man, identified as Grimes and his friends, from entering the home. Authorities say that the group then left the area.
But police say that a short time later, Grimes and his friends allegedly returned to the home and a second confrontation occurred that ultimately led to Rodriguez-Corona being shot.
The prosecutor says that Grimes was eventually captured in the backyard of a nearby home.
Grimes is being held in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution. He could face 30 years in prison if convicted of the charges.
