Two construction projects are underway on Main Street in the Village of Westhampton Beach.
One of the projects from the village includes upgrading storm drains, burying utility lines and building new curbs and sidewalks.
The other project is from the Suffolk County Water Authority and will replace water mains.
Village Mayor Maria Moore says the timing worked out, and all the work is being done during the off season. She says many shop owners on the street are onboard with the project.
Michael Brunetti owns two businesses on Main Street.
"It is something I have been excited about for a long time and we are finally doing that. Of course, it’s going to be a long winter,” he says.
Some residents in the area say they are reluctant about the construction.
“I didn't expect it to be completely ripped up like this. I thought they were going to do it in stages but, it’s the whole street at one time,” says Greg Panayis.
Village officials say that Main Street will remain open for business during the eight-month project. They say there will be plenty of side street parking for residents.
Officials say they expect the whole project to be completed by Memorial Day weekend.
