MTA announces L train service changes for this fall

It may not be a total shutdown, but the MTA has announced some big service changes coming to the L train this fall.
Officials made the announcement of the fall schedule at MTA headquarters Wednesday. MTA Chief Development Officer Janno Lieber says the MTA is preparing to start work along the L line to make it more accessible and reduce crowding.
Part of the enhancements includes the installation of of a new escalator at Union Square.
This means from Sept. 13-16, there will be no L train service in either direction between Eighth Avenue and Broadway Junction. The closure will begin at 10:45 p.m. on Sept. 13. Shuttle buses will be provided.
The MTA also announced there will be between three to five weeks of weeknights and weekends where there will be no L train service at Eighth Avenue and Sixth Avenue stations in Manhattan.
Officials say New Yorkers have been patient with the repairs, and they are planning this work to go alongside the construction that is already taking place.
As for the L train project that includes the rehabilitation of the Canarsie Tunnel, MTA officials say the work is running smoothly and on schedule.
