CLAREMONT -

Police say a thief stole close to $500 worth of equipment from a home in Claremont two weeks ago.

A security camera captured the trespasser sneaking into the victim’s home along Selwyn Avenue just before 2 a.m.

The man gained access by opening an unlocked basement side window, according to the super.

Police say once inside this thief got away with $500 worth of contracting tools.

He's believed to be around 30 years old, about 6 feet tall and around 150 pounds.

During this burglary, News 12 is told no one was injured.

A resident in the area tells News 12 in the past couple months there's been an increase of burglaries in the neighborhood. Authorities are warning tenants to make sure their homes are secured and locked.

The super tells News 12 the thief is known around the area, and that he has just been released from jail for a similar incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
