The principal of Central Islip High School has been charged with assault.

According to court documents, Brett MacMonigle was arrested in connection with a domestic violence incident that happened last December.

Police say the Brightwaters man slapped the victim and pushed them so hard that they were knocked unconscious.

The school district issued a statement saying MacMonigle will remain on leave while the case unfolds.
