JCP&L: Some areas of NJ may not have power restored until Friday

HAMILTON -

JCP&L spokesman Cliff Cole says that crews were working diligently to restore power to the thousands of New Jersey residents who lost it. But he says that due to the extent of the damage around the state, some customers may not have power restored until 11:30 p.m. Friday – nearly a week after the storm hit.

Monday’s storms produced high winds and heavy rains, which caused trees to uproot and utility lines to come down. There were over 350,000 customers without power statewide at the height of the storm.

Camden County sees widespread power outages

Monmouth County was one of the hardest hit by the storm. Sheriff Shaun Golden reported that over 45% of the county was without power at one point Monday evening.

JCP&L posted on the company’s social media accounts that free water and ice would be available for customers who were without electricity. Locations for the supplies were posted online.

Utility crews were working to restore the power to as many New Jersey residents as they could Tuesday. PSE&G and JCP&L say that they have brought in out-of-state help to assist in the restorations.

New Jersey Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin criticized the utility companies’ response to the storm. He is calling on them to take a closer look at their producers before, during and after storms and come up with a better plan of action.
