Police ID man fatally struck by tree limb in Fairfield
Police have identified a man fatally struck by a tree limb during a thunderstorm in Fairfield.
Jarrod Marotto, 21, of Southington was killed during the incident Wednesday.
It happened on Park Avenue near the intersection of Wilson Street just after 5 p.m.
Police say a large cottonwood tree was struck by lightning and fell onto the driver’s side of Marotto's car.
Marotto was taken to St. Vincent’s Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. A construction crew was brought in to untangle the tree, wires and car.
It marks the second time in a few weeks that a man was killed by a falling tree in Fairfield.
A 54-year-old man was killed by a falling tree after severe thunderstorms in Fairfield on June 30.
