State Sen. Alessandra Biaggi and Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz held a town hall in Riverdale Tuesday night.

The purpose of the town hall was to go over accomplishments of this year's legislative session and to take questions from people in their districts who filled the Riverdale YM & YWHA.

The assemblyman said this was a productive session. He touted the passage of rent reform, which he says will prevent landlords from abusing the system to make money.

Sen. Biaggi also touted rent reform and the passage of sexual harassment laws.

Outside the town hall, a protest began, with people lining up outside speaking out against both Dinowitz and Biaggi for supporting a bill ending vaccination exemptions based on religious beliefs.

Many in the crowd said they should be able to decide whether to vaccinate their children or not. They claim the bill, which was signed by the governor, was unfair to parents. City officials encourage vaccinations, saying as of July 15 there have been 623 confirmed cases of the measles in New York City since September.

In some cases, a parent in New York City can face fines up to $1,000 for having their unvaccinated child exposed to measles.
