Strong thunderstorms douse Bronx and city, break extreme heat

Posted: Updated:
THE BRONX -

The intense heat is coming to an end Monday after an extremely muggy weekend, but it won't go away quietly.

After a mainly sunny day, a severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for the entire city until 10 PM. A flash flood warning is also in effect until 8:45 p.m.

Storms will be capable of producing flooding rains, frequent lightning, and damaging wind gusts. Hail and even a weak tornado can't be ruled out.

Rain will continue Monday night and Tuesday morning, some of which may be very heavy. For that reason, a Flash Flood Watch will remain in effect into tomorrow.

Expect a low temperature Monday night of around 65 degrees.

Rain is will taper off by Tuesday afternoon, with highs will be around 75 degrees.

Wednesday is expected to see a mix of sun and clouds with the high around 82 degrees.
