Garden City man accused in burglary now faces child porn charges

A Garden City man accused of stealing more than $14,000 from his girlfriend's roommate is now facing child porn charges Thursday.
Police say Peter Alford, 24, was arrested on child porn possession charges after investigators made some disturbing discoveries at his home.
According to prosecutors, Alford stole money from his girlfriend's roommate on July 3. They say when the roommate noticed the money was missing she set up a hidden camera in the closet. Authorities say the camera captured Alford entering the closet again a few days later. Prosecutors say she called police.
Police say when they arrested Alford on burglary charges, they found various drugs in his possession. They say Alford consented to a search of his cellphone and home computer and that's when detectives found several child porn videos.
Prosecutors say the videos show female children between the ages of 8 and 13 performing sexual acts.
Alford, who works as a librarian, pleaded not guilty to several charges, including possessing a sexual performance by a child, burglary, criminal possession of a controlled substance, grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property.
Alford's parents posted their son's $6,000 bail.
At his arraignment, Alford's attorney said while not admitting to the child porn and drug charges they will be seeking treatment for Alford to deal with these issues.
