Family: Median garden dedicated to daughter falls into disrepair

A family is battling with a Suffolk town to get a garden that's dedicated to their terminal daughter watered.
The family of 14-year-old Emily O’Connor says that the town is letting a median on Ronkonkoma Avenue fall into disrepair.
They say O’Connor has a rare terminal genetic disorder, Sanfilippo syndrome. It affects the brain and spinal cord.
The father, Kevin O’Connor, says that the median is an adopt-a-spot location. He says the state replaced the sprinkler system to the median five years ago, but it has not been working for about a year.
The family says they have been asking the Town of Brookhaven to fix the sprinkler system since last July.
“The sprinkler system in this median is in the process of being repaired by the Town of Brookhaven,” says Parks Commissioner Ed Morris.
The O'Connors say they will continue to help maintain the median once plants are able to grow there again.
