DOT highway welcome areas reopen for 24-hour service

Department of Transportation welcome areas off Connecticut's highways are officially reopened for 24-hour service Monday.
Gov. Ned Lamont and Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton removed a sign from one of the welcome centers which read "Building Closed 3:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m."
The DOT was forced to limit the hours of operation on the buildings after budget cuts in 2016.
However, officials say the buildings will now be operational 24 hours a day.
A couple driving from New Jersey to New Hampshire say they are thankful for facilities to be open along their traveling route.
The welcome centers are equipped with restrooms, vending and soda machines and maps.
